The SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test ):

Each year, more than one million students take the SAT test to gain entrance into the college of their choice. The SAT requires you to answer questions related to Critical Reading, Writing and Math, that are intended to assess your general readiness for college and to show college admissions professionals whether you will perform successfully in college.

The SAT is not a direct measure of your abilities. It is not an IQ test. The SAT is also not a value of your measure as a person, nor is it a measure of your natural inborn ability.

The SAT actually measures a predictable set of skills and some specific knowledge. It is “trainable” meaning that you can do better on your SAT if you put the time into learning the knowledge and perfecting the skills that are tested.

Structure of the SAT:

The SAT reasoning test includes a total of 170 questions (not counting the variable section), plus one Essay assignment. You are given 3 hours and 45 minutes to complete the test.

Here is a breakdown of the question types, number of each question type, and time allotted for each section;

You receive one point for each of the questions that you answer correctly on the SAT. If you answer a multiple choice question incorrectly, and extra ¼ point will be deducted. You will receive zero points for questions that are left blank. Because of this scoring system, we recommend that you do not guess at random on the SAT.

Follow the strategies that we teach, and learn how to make educated guesses when necessary.

Scores from each of the sections of the SAT, are reported on a scale from 200 to 800, with additional sub scores reported for the essay. The essay sub scores range from 2 to 12. The multiple choice writing sections also receive a sub score that is measured on a 20 to 80 scale.

At the time of writing, the test cost US $ 78 and can be written in numerous centers. To register and obtain all the procedures, see the College Board web site by clicking here. To maximise your chances of attaining the best score possible, we offer a part time three month SAT preparation course. For more info, speak to your tutor a few months before you wish to start, during your final year of study with us.
